Malga Valcigolera can be reached by a walk, by e-bike or, for those who love fatigue, also by mountain bike, through the suggestive forest surrounding San Martino di Castrozza.
The main access point is located a few steps away from the San Martino di Castrozza sports centre, but it is also possible to reach the hut from Malga Ces, via the “Sentiero del Cervo” and “Sentiero del Dahù” trails, or starting from the Tognola lifts, following the “Sentiero della Pace” trail.
The routes offer different lengths and levels of difficulty. Read the description of each one to choose the one best suited to your needs.
This is the easiest and most accessible route, ideal for a walk in the nature. A forest road leads to the malga in about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
It is also possible to walk this route with a trekking buggy, but we do not recommend doing so: it is much more practical to use a baby backpack, which can be hired directly in San Martino di Castrozza at the San Martino Sport or Ski Sport shops.
This itinerary is suitable for families and starts from Malga Ces, a point easily reached from the centre of San Martino di Castrozza (5 minutes by car or 20 minutes by walk).
The trail is named after the animal that most commonly inhabits our area. With a bit of luck, you might spot a majestic specimen along the way!
This panoramic trail is dedicated to the legend of the Dahu, a mysterious animal that, according to tradition, lives in our mountains.
The route starts at the top station of the Colbricon Express cable car and runs among the dense rhododendrons that bloom at the edge of the path, creating a magical atmosphere, especially in the summer months.
Along the route there are several information panels telling the story of the Dahu, until you reach the Malga Valcigolera, where there is a specimen of a very rare Dahu!
A scenic route at high altitude, also suitable for families.
Take the Tognola cable car to the mountain station of the lift. From here, you continue by walk, first reaching Malghetta Tognola, and finally Malga Valcigolera thanks to a fascinating path through the wood.
A perfect opportunity to enjoy the quietness of the mountains.

In winter, Malga Valcigolera is immersed in the heart of the San Martino di Castrozza Ski Area, with 60 km of slopes and one of the most spectacular views in the Dolomites.
To reach us on skis, you can set off from the Ces ski area, following the Sole or the Ski Weg Coston slopes, or from the Alpe Tognola side, descending from the Tognola peak on the legendary Cristiania slope.
Alternatively, you can reach us by walk or on touring skis, following the comfortable forest road that climbs up from San Martino di Castrozza and turns into an enchanting snowy landscape in winter.
The route is always beaten, but can be icy at certain times. For this reason, crampons/snowshoes are recommended.
No problem, you can read it by clicking the button below.
On the way up, let yourself be motivated by the idea of a deliciuos dish of polenta, sausage, tosèla cheese and mushrooms that you will soon taste…
