Reachable both in summer, thanks to various trails, and in winter, on skis or snowshoes, Malga Valcigolera is the ideal refuge to relax and recharge your batteries, while enjoying a cold beer or a delicious typical dish.
On one side stretches the Lagorai chain, a mountain massif of volcanic origin, characterised by porphyry rocks and a unspoilt alpine landscape, ideal for hiking and ski mountaineering.
The Malga takes its name from the peak above it, Cima Valcigolera.
On the other, directly opposite, rise the majestic Pale di San Martino, the largest mountain group in the Dolomites, composed of light-coloured sedimentary rock and breathtaking scenery.
The malga is made up of two structures: the stable, situated on the edge of the wood (or, as we say, ‘sul campigòl’), now disused, and the caséra, the proper alpine hut.
In 2008, the structure was enlarged and equipped with modern systems for the independent production of energy and hot water.
The wooden architecture, typical of the area, has been enriched with fascinating glass walls which, framing the wooden logs, give brightness to the main room.
A spectacular view of the Pale di San Martino peaks opens from these windows, while the external appearance of the hut, blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape.
We are in the Primiero valley, in eastern Trentino, precisely in the Cigolera valley: an enchanting corner of nature with a view of the Pale di San Martino mountains.
You can easily reach us from San Martino di Castrozza, following the north-west direction towards the Lagorai chain.
Its strategic position makes it a perfect reference point for hikers and skiers.
The “Carosello delle Malghe”, located in the San Martino di Castrozza Ski Area, is a true gastronomic journey through the authentic flavours of the mountains.
Between one descent and the next, you can stop at the various huts to taste typical dishes, made with fresh, local ingredients.
Located right in the heart of the carousel, Malga Valcigolera is easy to reach thanks to the ‘Sole’ and ‘Cristiania’ ski slopes, two icons of our Ski Area, which will take you straight to its door.
An unforgettable experience combining sport, nature and gastronomy.
San Martino di Castrozza is a little gem set at the foot of the majestic Pale di San Martino, in the heart of the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Nature Park.
Here, you can enjoy a unique experience: skiing or walking surrounded by unspoilt nature, savouring local dishes that will recharge your energy after a long day on the snow or a relaxing walk in the woods.
Every corner of this valley is an invitation to discover the mountains in all their beauty.
We know, choosing just one dish from our menu is a difficult task.
As soon as you think you have chosen, you see another dish and want to taste them all.
If your better half doesn’t want to share your plate, we’ll help you out, with specially created tasting menus to make sure you don’t miss anything.
The Malga Valcigolera is open daily from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., from the beginning of December to the end of March.
Re-opening for the summer season usually takes place in mid-June until mid-September.
